The Design Crew at west elm in Birmingham, Alabama has flexed their design-savoy skills yet again, this time partnering with their client on a historic home in the Highland Park area. Located in one of Birmingham’s oldest neighborhoods, this 1913 two-story home has a traditional feel keeping the with the style of its build, but with contemporary, updated elements throughout. Kathy Wright, lead Home Stylist with west elm Birmingham’s Design Crew took the project head-on, really keeping with the main goal in mind – simple but stylish, functional yet fun. Tour the space below and learn about some of the key design elements Kathy used to bring this space to life – including the most charming front patio + entryway, outfitted with the Portside Collection, we’ve seen all summer long!
“We also have no formal entryway. We plan to build a mudroom on the back of the house but for now, hooks are our best friend. I also use the modern dresser in our living room to store coats, hats, shoes, etc so I don’t have to look at them!”
Chelsea’s favorite aspect of their new family home is the trees and the natural light. “I love the trees around our home and the lighting it provides in the space. The corner seating area off the kitchen gets the best light in the early afternoon and the big windows that look out to trees make me feel so much more connected with nature. That’s one of my favorite spots to just sit and observe!”
