Everyday something new
ASNA Studio -

When new parents Chelsea + Kiel Mohrman took the plunge and decided to move further out of the city-center and into a smaller community, they went into it with an open mind. Packing up their old Bungalow near Ohio State University in Columbus, they set out to find a more family-friendly option with a good community + schools to raise their two kids, Evan and Oliver. Their months-long search was proving to be fruitless until they stumbled upon this charming 1954 Cape Cod style home in Worthington, Ohio, purely by accident.

Proof that getting lost is sometimes a good thing, Chelsea + Kiel got turned around on what they thought was a through-street but ended up being a dead end cul-de-sac where they saw sale signs in the yard of their dream home. Cue the serendipity! Surrounded by old-growth trees, abundant greenery, and a natural ravine, it was too good to pass up. Chelsea and Kiel came to learn that the house was a recent flip project that was struggling to sell quickly due to a more dated-style that was chosen for the remodel. Thus, it was time to flip again!

“We also have no formal entryway. We plan to build a mudroom on the back of the house but for now, hooks are our best friend. I also use the modern dresser in our living room to store coats, hats, shoes, etc so I don’t have to look at them!”

Chelsea’s favorite aspect of their new family home is the trees and the natural light. “I love the trees around our home and the lighting it provides in the space. The corner seating area off the kitchen gets the best light in the early afternoon and the big windows that look out to trees make me feel so much more connected with nature. That’s one of my favorite spots to just sit and observe!”

Living Room

“Kiel and I were born and raised in a suburb of Columbus, OH. We met in high school and later reconnected in
college which is when we started dating. Kiel has a degree in Industrial Design from Columbus College of Art &
Design and I studied nursing at The Ohio State University. I work as an oncology nurse part time and Kiel
works full time for a product design firm.

“Until a few months ago we lived in a very old bungalow close to OSU’s campus but recently moved into this new
home a little further out in the suburbs for the family oriented community and excellent schools.”

Kitchen

“I tend to lean towards the “organic vintage modern” style if there is such a thing”, Chelsea explains. “I
like my spaces to be clean and bright but not overwhelming. I love mixing old and new and don’t like seeing
spaces with too much matchy-matchy (although some symmetry and repetition is usually desired so that the eye
can rest).

“We love rummaging through flea markets, estate sales and garage sales to find one of a kind vintage items and
pairing them with newer yet stylish upholstery, tables or fixtur

Kid’s Bedroom
